What wood fastness depends on?
The wood fastness depends obviously on wood quality class and wood thickness,
but auxiliary materials used for laying and care are also important. Today are used
three methods of refinement of wooden surfaces: varnishing, oiling and waxing.
Varnishing is the most popular method. According to taste and floor purposes one can
use glossy, semi-matt and matt varnish, rarely anti-slip varnishes.
Varnishes need up to 14 days for full hardening, but numerous new varnishes
protect floor just after three hours. The varnish protects the floor i.e.
increases resistance against water penetration. The room, where varnished surfaces
are located, should fulfil temperature and humidity conditions. To high temperature
may cause drying and cracking of wood. Too high humidity results in wood expansion.
It has been assumed that optimum temperature lies between 17 and 25°C and
humidity - below 60%.
To reduce floor wear it is indispensable to maintain and clean it regularly.
There are special products for floor maintenance. It must be remembered that
each such product is matched with relevant floor finish (i.e. varnishing, oiling
or waxing). Table and chair legs should be fitted with felt feet. If a carpet lies
on the floor, it is recommended to use special anti-slip pads.
